The regular cleaning of the teeth is indispensable for their health, which is already known by every child. But what exactly is to do to keep teeth and gums really free from dangerous bacteria? Finally, they are responsible for the development of caries , periodontal disease and periodontal disease - and thus also in the worst case for tooth loss.

Is the use of synthetic tooth creams and antibacterial mouthwashes really necessary, or is it not more sensible to re-establish the previously healthy oral flora through natural dental care, as a result of which teeth, gums and health as a whole benefit equally?

Healthy oral flora through natural dental care

Mouth flora includes all micro-organisms naturally found in the oral cavity. These are mainly a variety of different bacterial strains, which are balanced in a healthy oral flora. In this balance gum disease can't develop.

The moist and warm environment makes the oral cavity, however, an ideal incubator for pathogenic bacteria, which mainly feed on sugary foodstuffs. The more sugar is consumed, the faster these bacteria can multiply, thus ruining the balance of the oral flora. Therefore, the most important task for keeping the teeth and the gums healthy is to restore the previously healthy environment in the mouth by means of a natural dental care.

Natural dental care as a prevention against dental plaque

Toothpicks consist of saliva, food residues and bacteria which adhere to the tooth in an initially soft coating. If this is not regularly removed by careful brushing of the teeth, it removes important minerals from the teeth, so that they are bonded to the teeth, thus hardening to form a tooth.

On the teeth and in their immediate vicinity, one can find especially those bacteria which decompose sugar to acid. These acids attack the molten tooth and thus prepare the soil for the development of tooth and tooth disease. A natural dental care with antibacterial ingredients has proved to be the best preventive measure.

Without sugar, pathogenic bacteria can not survive

Other bacteria are mainly located between the teeth and the gums. They also feed on the food residues there. The acids produced during the decomposition of the sugar irritate the gingival margin and can cause inflammation in this area .

If the inflammation remains untreated, the bacteria penetrate more deeply into the gums and also trigger inflammatory processes there, which in the worst case can lead to a degradation of the bone substance. To prevent this development, a consistent natural dentistry with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect is required.

The bacteria are the first

You can see that teeth and gum disease such as caries or periodontal disease are always caused by an out-of-balance mouth. In this case, the healthy, slightly basic pH of the saliva - and thus of the oral cavity - has shifted to the "acid" position.

The milieu changed in this way is particularly beneficial to pathogenic bacteria. And since they are frequently provided with a lot of sugary food as well as a sufficient amount of foodstuffs - due to insufficient tooth hygiene - nothing can stand in the way of their flying growth. The equilibrium in which the bacteria originally stood together is no longer present.

Now the pathogenic bacteria have the say and the caries and the gum disease are door and gate open.

Natural dental care - but right

But how can the once-healthy oral flora be restored? Is it sufficient to clean the teeth three times a day? Does this measure actually eliminate the pathogenic bacteria? Surely not, but careful brushing is very important because it is only in this way that the still soft dental plaque, including the food feast, can be removed, on and between the teeth.

After all, the covering provides the bacteria with a protected environment and the most food adequate food, but you know that long ago :-).

Some important factors have to be considered when brushing teeth:

●The toothbrush should have soft bristles and be renewed every 6 to 8 weeks at the latest.

●A tooth gap brush allows you to clean the area between the teeth well.

●Use the toothbrush not only to clean the upper and outer surfaces of your teeth, but also to thoroughly clean the back of the teeth.

●Always brush your teeth from above (gums) down (towards teeth). This prevents bacteria from sticking into the gum.

●To disinfect the brushes after cleaning, we recommend the use of grapefruit kernel extract . It is known to act as a natural antibiotic and free from side effects. Therefore, place 1 or 2 drops into a toothbrush filled with little water, and leave the brushes to stand for about 5 minutes. Then rinse the brushes and straighten them to dry.

Toothpaste can be toxic

Just as important as proper tooth brushing is the use of a natural toothpaste. The commercial products usually contain strong harmful ingredients such as fluorides , triclosan , sodium lauryl sulfate, various parabens, polyethylene glycols, synthetic sweeteners and then some.

The effects of these substances on the body can be read under the link " Toothpaste ingredients " at the end of the text. All substances mentioned above are generally very harmful to health. When brushing the teeth, the partial toxic ingredients of the toothpaste enter the blood circulation directly through the oral mucosa, particularly affecting the liver , kidneys and intestines, and also weaken the immune system immensely .

Antibacterial mouthwashes destroy the oral flora

The use of an antibacterial mouthwash can be useful in the case of acute inflammation in the short term. However, a long-term use is not advisable, since these mouthwashes also kill the beneficial bacteria so that it is very difficult, if at all, to produce a healthy oral flora again.

The chemical agents such as chlorhexidine digluconate (CHX), cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) and methylsalicylate also have other side effects, such as mucosal changes, the development of a dry and burning mouth, discoloration of the tongue and teeth, and a disturbed feeling of taste.

Therefore use natural mouthwashes for the additional care of your oral cavity, which, because of their essential oil content, are also effective against bacteria without, however, adversely affecting the oral flora in any way.

Natural oral hygiene

Therefore do not renounce "only" your dental health for all chemical oral care products and opt for a natural cleaning of your teeth and the gums. There are some excellent possibilities for natural oral care which, in addition to the cleaning effect, also support healing processes in the oral cavity.

In the natural cosmetics sector, you will now find very good tooth creams without any serious ingredients, eg the Himalayan tooth creams from Natur Hurtig or tooth creams from Weleda etc.

However, dental care products can also be produced by themselves. Here are some recipes for homemade and antibacterial toothpastes:

Four tips for healthy, natural dental care

Aloe vera and peppermint

Mash organic peppermint  leaves so they fill a half cup of coffee. Add the same amount of finely ground crystal salt. Subsequently, add ten drops of a biological herbal peppermint oil. Finally, add a paste by adding a pure, organic Aloe Vera gel (without additives!).

The health benefits of the peppermint are very varied, but the following properties are of great importance for dental health: the peppermint has antibiotic, anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiparasitic and antiseptic. In addition, it acts astringent and stimulating.

The Aloe Vera gel also works well against pathogenic bacteria and fungi, which has been demonstrated in numerous studies. Anti-inflammatory anthraquinones in the aloe vera gel assist the healing process and relieve the pain.

The crystal salt is a  salt which, in contrast to conventional saline salt , contains over 80 minerals and other elements that create a milieu in which the growth of beneficial bacterial cultures is stimulated. The disease-inducing bacteria do not feel well in this milieu, so that their multiplication is restricted. In this way, the crystal salt supports the restoration of a healthy oral flora.

Nepha leaves and neem oil

Grind organic non-boil  leaves  to a powder and add the same amount of finely ground Himalayas salt. Now stir the cold pressed Nienbaumöl until a nice paste is formed.

The special alkaloids and limonoids of the neem tree clean the teeth excellently. Some of the active ingredients have a very favorable effect on the health of the teeth due to their antiviral and antibacterial properties.

In addition, the leaves and the oil of the neem tree have astringent, antiseptic, antifungal, antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. They protect against caries and gum infections, they allow already existing gum infections to decay, regenerate and strengthen the gums.

However, the neem toothpaste tastes very bitter and is therefore not suitable for delicate palate. Neem also has a very strong anti-bacterial effect and should only be used for targeted caries control over a short period of time, for example two weeks, but not permanently, in order to avoid damage to the oral flora.

Coconut oil and lemongrass

Use freshly ground lemongrass in the amount of half a cup of coffee and add the same amount of finely ground crystal salt. Subsequently, add ten drops of a biological lemon grass oil, which has been classified as therapeutic. Finally, stir a biological, cold-pressed coconut oil until a paste is formed.

The following properties make the lemongrass so valuable for dental health: It has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant , antiparasitic, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-fungal and nerve-strengthening. Also the last mentioned property can be extremely useful in dental problems of any kind :-).

Responsible for the outstanding health properties of the coconut oil in general are their medium-chain fatty acids. Lauric acid, which is effectively supported by capric acid and caprylic acid in its activity, has a particularly intense effect. Thanks to this triple team, the coconut oil is able to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

Cinnamon, cloves and red palm oil

Melt organic sweet cinnamon sticks in a quantity that fills a half cup of coffee. Add the same amount of finely ground Himalayas salt. Now add 8 to 10 drops * of a biological and therapeutically classified essential oil bud oil. Stir in the mixture until cold, until a paste is formed.

Cinnamon is known for its versatile therapeutic use . In the context of dental health, however, its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects are the main focus.

Essential oil has a strong antibacterial, antimycotic, antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory effect. In combination with cinnamon, its health benefits are enhanced.

The red palm oil is considered a true nutrient pool. In addition to its excellent fatty acid composition, it also contains phytosterols, flavonoids, phenolic acids, glycolipids, vitamin K , Q-10 and squalene.

Moreover, it is THE source of vitamin E, because it has all four tocotrienols whose enormous antioxidant activity is up to 60 times higher than that of normal Vitamin E . Combined with its beta-carotene , alpha-carotene , lycopene and a further 20 carotenes, it is an excellent antioxidant food that protects teeth and gums from the attacks of free radicals.

Further recommendations for natural dental care:

●The rough surface of the tongue provides an ideal nesting place for the bacteria in the mouth. Therefore, under no circumstances should you neglect the cleaning of your tongue in your dental hygiene. Use a tongue scraper in the morning after brushing your teeth. You will be amazed at the amount of covering that has formed over night. The cleaning of the tongues also has an inhibiting effect on the new formation of dental plaque due to the removal of this coating.

●Oil extraction with organic sesame oil or organic sunflower oil is an ideal measure for strengthening the teeth and the gums. A detailed guide can be found on many websites.

●Use colloidal silver as a mouthwash after each toothbrush , as there is hardly a comparable, tasteless, and non-efficacy remedy that is effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Keep the colloidal silver in the mouth for about 5 minutes before spitting.

●Probiotic microorganisms are able to staple bacteria that trigger caries. Together they clump together and can be washed away from the saliva. For this purpose, the probiotic bacteria in liquid form must be used purely as a mouthwash. Only in the case of existing gum infections, they should be used diluted with a little water, since they may otherwise cause an unpleasant burning due to their low pH at the inflamed places.

●After each meal you can rinse your mouth thoroughly with a xylitol solution ( xylitol dissolved in water). The solution is then spat out. Xylitol is an anti-carcinoma drug. It can not be metabolized by the bacteria and thus inhibits its growth. In addition, xylitol promotes the remineralization of the teeth. You can find more information on this topic at the link below.

●Ensure adequate vitamin C supply, as this vitamin is not only an important antioxidant in the fight against free radicals; It is also urgently needed for the structure of the dentin as well as for the strengthening of the gingival connective tissue. In addition, it counteracts inflammatory processes and accelerates wound healing processes.

The most important measure for the prevention of tooth and gum problems of all kinds is - in addition to all the above-mentioned recommendations - a dental nutrition method. This is based on (as possible) sugar-free diet.

If you are able to take the sugar really consciously and only in small quantities and to dispense with finished products on which the sugar (or other names such as glucose, sucrose, dextrose, fructose , syrup, honey etc.) quite far forward On the list of ingredients, you have already come a long way closer to your dental health. Because you know now:

Without sugar - no bacteria
without bacteria - no tooth and gum diseases
without tooth and gum disease - good (tooth) health

We wish you to have this health forever :-).
