Use Essential Oil And Phenolic Mouthwash To Cure Halitosis

Why to use essential oil mouthwash and phenolic mouthwash to treat bad breath(Halitosis). A 3month Reserach Guide By Oxford, Scielo, NCBI and many others.

Use Essential Oil And Phenolic Mouthwash To Cure Halitosis
Use Essential Oil And Phenolic Mouthwash To Cure Halitosis

Essential oils are extracted from plants and tress. Essential oil mouthwashes are better than traditional mouthwash. Essential oil mouthwash have capacity to cure gingivitis and halitosis. Now a days essential oils are extensively used in commercial mouthwashes.

But what is halitosis?

Halitosis simply means bad breath. A bad and unpleasant odor occurs when you exhale. It is also called fetor oris.

What produces such bad odor?

Bacteria is responsible for such bad odor. It stays below the gum line and the back of the tongue. It happens with those people who have genuine halitosis.

And what are the other factors for bad odor?

There are many other factors that cause bad odor.

For example :-

  1. Disorder in nasal cavity
  2. Disorder in sinuses
  3. Disorder in throat
  4. Disorder in lungs
  5. Disorder in esophagus
  6. Disorder in stomach

So how to reduce halitosis effect?

Improve your oral hygiene. Brush daily and scrap the back of the tongue. Do proper dental floss because it improves the health of the gums.

Relation between tongue and bad breath

Daily cleaning of tongue controls bad breath. Apart from cleaning these are the other methods you must use to overcome bad breath.

For example:-

  1. Mints
  2. Mouth sprays
  3. Mouthwash

Are these other methods are really effective?

The main task of these other method is to mask the bad odor but the question is do they cure? And the answer is yes they do. The main reason of bad breath is the presence of bacteria on the back of the tongue. These other methods have the potential to remove the source of the bacteria. If the source is removed so shall bad breath as well. Removing bacteria prevents the production of sulfur compound in your mouth. It also decays food debris present on the tongue. So take the help of these other methods.

Ok So other method works but what makes mouthwash No.1 among them and why it is so important?

A study was held in 2008 to determine the efficiency of mouthwash to control bad breath (Halistosis). The conclusion of Study was  that mouthwash can cure bad breath.

Why that study found mouthwash efficient?

The reason is presence of anti bacterial agents in mouthwash.

For example:-

  1. cetylpyridinium chloride,
  2. chlorhexidine
  3. zinc gluconate
  4. essential oils
  5. hydrogen peroxide
  6. chlorine dioxide

Cetylpyridinium chloride (Case study By NCBI And Dailymail)

So you want to know why cetylpyridinium clhloride in mouthwash is effective. Read these case study :-

Cetylpyridinium chloride mouthwash kills all the germs and bacteria which can cause bad breath and gingivitis. It also helps in reducing tartar build up and help in prevention of cavities. It contains all the essential minerals which helps in repairing of soft spots and also strengthens your enamel to help prevent tooth decay. So these are all the list of mouthwashes contains cetylpyridinium chloride.

Chlorhexidine (Case Study By NCBI, Oxford and Scielo )

So you want to know why Chlorhexidine in mouthwash is effective. Read these case study

Chlorhexidine gluconate is used as an active ingredient in mouthwash because that reduces dental plaque and oral bacteria. Chlorhexidine lasts longer in mouth than the other mouthwash and that is why it is more preferred in curing gingitivits.

NCBI Case Study :-"The overall rate of nosocomial pneumonia was reduced by 52% (4/270 vs 9/291; P = .21) in the Peridex-treated patients. Among patients intubated for more than 24 hours who had cultures that showed microbial growth (all pneumonias occurred in this group), the pneumonia rate was reduced by 58% (4/19 vs 9/18; P = .06) in patients treated with Peridex. In patients at highest risk for pneumonia (intubated > 24 hours, with cultures showing the most growth), the rate was 71% lower in the Peridex group than in the Listerine group (2/10 vs 7/10; P = .02).

Oxford Case Study:-
"The use of chlorhexidine gluconate solution for vascular catheter insertion site care reduces the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection by one-half, compared with povidone iodine.

Scielo Case Study:-Chlorhexidine gluconate does not totally eliminate oral mucosa injuries, but is able to decrease their frequency and intensity without significant noxious effects.

Zinc and chlorhexidine have synergistic effects.

But why essential oils are so important than any other type of mouthwash

Using oil containing mouthwash is a new approach to treat bad breath or Halitosis. Essential oils have been found extremely useful in treating halitosis.

They are best because they have anti-bacterial properties that kills the germs of mouth and stops building the dental plaque which later causes tooth decay and other problems to breath also. Essential oil mouthwash contains eugenol, thymol, phynol ,eucalypto and menthol that are good for healthy oral hygiene.

  1. Eugenol :- the oil of eugenol is best medicine for relief of dental pain.
  2. Thymol :- It is good for those people who have cough problems and bronchitis.
  3. Phenol :- Properties like ability to prevent cancer.phenolic compounds have antioxidant effects.
  4. Eucalypto:-Good to loose cough and for prevention of infections
  5. Menthol:-Menthol which helps in cure of dry cough and sore throats

So essential oils mouthwash are best ! But what about Phenolic Mouthwash?

Phenolic mouthwash contains less substantivity than chlorhexidine mouthwash and phenolic mouthwash have tremendous anti plaque properties.

For example:-

Thymol:- It is found in thyme, As an antiseptic in mouthwash. It;s chemical name is (2-Isopropyl-5-methyl phenol).

Phenols are not only used in mouthwash but they are used in various applications like:-

  1. laboratory processes
  2. chemical industry
  3. chemical engineering processes
  4. wood processing
  5. plastics processing

NCBI Case Study On Phenolic MouthwashThis indicates that the phenolic compound may have anti-inflammatory effects.

Researchgate Case Study :-Chlorhexidine and phenolic mouthrinses have attracted considerable interest as adjuncts to oral hygiene.

Some practical ways you can do to cure halitosis

  1. Change the toothbrush to every four to five months after consuming food.
  2. Avoid cheese as well as other milk goods to reduce bad breath.
  3. Consume a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar right before every mealtime.
