Triclosan, an antibacterial agent, found in almost every part of toothpaste, and many types of soap are proven to be effective against malaria. While the therapeutic effect of triclosan showed only in mice, but according to experts, it will not be less effective for the treatment of humans.

This study was conducted by researchers from the Indian Research Center Jawaharlal Nehru. They introduced triclosan malaria in rodents. It was found that the rate of medication to completely get rid of the last infection. According to scientists, the drug blocks the synthesis of fatty acids in the malaria parasite, stopping its development at an early stage.

Because of this, how triclosan inhibits the growth of many bacteria and plants. In humans, however, the fatty acid synthesis is the other way, so no danger to it new medicine obviously does not pose. But still carry out experiments in human volunteers to prove the safety of the method.

According to the experts who wrote the foreword to the paper on the discovery of the February issue of Nature Medicine, never before been experimented with the treatment of malaria triclosan were not carried out. There are currently many effective medicines, but high costs limit their use.

The scientists hope that the discovery of anti-malaria properties of triclosan will be able to change the situation. If clinical trials are successful, the hope for recovery will be more than 400 million people suffering from malaria.
