How Does steam inhalation with essential oil works?

A pot or a bowl of hot water and an addition of camomile flowers - plus a towel - you don't need more than this for steam inhalation . The active ingredients, depending on the nature of the additive, are dissolved in water and rise in the form of steam. Subsequently, they are inhaled by nose and mouth and lie down on the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. Above all, on the nasal mucosa, in the throat and the supplements can act.

The warmth stimulates the blood flow, the mucous membranes are better treated and swell in the long term. In addition, the natural protection and the body-specific cleaning function are supported.

The water vapor additionally ensures humidification, dryness and cracks can only occur to a lesser extent or even be completely prevented. As a result, the mucous membranes offer less attack area for pathogens. This does not only affect germs that cause colds. Also the risk of inflammation is minimized. The humidification of the mucous membranes stimulates the removal of secretions and liquefies existing mucus. This makes it easier to blow it out, cough or pull it up.

Finally, the additives are used. These, again, according to the selected type, act as anti-inflammatory, mucolytic, decongestant and moisturizing. In this way, they promote the healing process and lead to a relief from many diseases.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are vegetable oils. They are formed of small glands, which can sit on quite different parts of a plant:

  • On the leaves (as for example with Eucalyptus, Melisse or Lemongras)
  • In the flowers (as with jasmine, rose, chamomile etc.)
  • On the skins (for all citrus fruits)
  • In wood (eg cedar or sandalwood)
  • In the roots (like ginger, iris root and others)
  • In the bark (cinnamon bark)
  • In the resin (eg in myrrh or Styrax).

Why Essential oil mouthwash is best for mouth and breath

The word "ethereal" was, incidentally, derived from the Greek "aither", which means "heavenly air". Although the substances are volatile, they are a regular concentrate of the respective plant. They are sometimes referred to as " fragrant souls of the plants".
